JOHN DAVIDSON INDEED<\/strong>\n standing over the body\n the shepherd turns and says to me\n a bigger giant\u2019s coming\n \u00a0\n but as the ominous music rises\n he grins and says no no\n that whole lion and bear thing?\n still applies\n the bigger they are and all that\n \u00a0\n then he hands me his sling\n (he apparently has a spare\n because he\u2019s got four more stones)\n<\/em> and he grins again\n and hands me a pouch marked \u2018special\u2019\n \u00a0\n I open it and shake out a single diamond the size of a man\u2019s hand\n without blemish and beyond Hope\n iridescent and flaming\n breathtaking and giving\n \u00a0\n this can\u2019t be right I protest\n what if I lose it?\n this should be behind glass and ropes and stern-faced men\n but as he runs to his next battle\n he says trust me\n his laughter pealing and surrounding\n oh just trust me\n you already got the king\u2019s daughter\n \u00a0\n so not without a degree of misgiving\n I lay the stone in its cradle\n all gold and blood and fire\n and like my muscles were made for this moment\n with eyes scanning the horizon\n I find myself beginning to twirl <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
